Over the years I have been fortunate enough to be the recipient of many gifts, thank-you notes and kids art work.
While some presents are timeless and repeat from one year to the next, other gifts were given to me due to specific events that occurred in my personal life such as getting married and having my children.
As a teacher, I do not expect presents at the end of the year. However, as a parent it is important for me to show my appreciation to my kids educators.
I am occupied with questions such as: "What should we buy?" "How much should we spend?" and "How can we get our children involved and teach them the value of saying thank-you?"
The process below helped me with my gift decisions. First, I made a list of all the teachers (nothing worse than forgetting someone) and asked the following questions about each one:
Is this teacher teaching a specialty subject? (music, science, math)
Does this teacher have a hobby? (gardening, biking, reading, cooking)
Does this teacher have any special events coming up in their lives? (moving, marriage, new child in the family)
